Shakira was the guest of honour at Oxford University last night, meeting students at their world famous debating society.
The Colombian pop star joined an illustrious list of speakers to make her 30 minute appearance in front of 400 people.
“It is a privilege to be here today, that you have afforded me this opportunity for me to speak to you”, she told the crowd.
However, the singer, who is a Unicef goodwill ambassador, expressed surprise at being asked to speak on the same stage as the likes of the Dalai Lama.
“I must admit I am somewhat mystified as to why you are here, as there won’t be any singing or any hip shaking whatsoever.
“So how do I go from Barranquilla, Colombia, to occupy the same stage as Newton and Churchill? Lord knows I’m no Mother Teresa”, she joked.
Shakira’s speech is reported to have centred on the importance of education for all.
